Counting the DEAD

not that I'd like to
count the dead from all the wars
or even a bunch of wars
or even one lousy war

but the way
our media rolls these days
those numbers weigh in
and stack up

it's the tail end of october
it's the season to plant bear root
the count was 98 last week
and is 100 today

it's the downhill part of 2006
it's a year when gladiolas revert to yellow
the war is eroding me somehow
numeric drops wetly wear this rock

away

When is a river not a river?

When is a river not a river
someone asked

maybe when it becomes
an ocean or a sea

or when it was
raindrops

or when it wafted
as a dark cloud

Kenny Rogers deserves game 6 KARMA

first photo above is from post-season game with Yankees, second photo above is from post-season game with A's, third photo above is from the NOTORIOUS post-season game with Cardinals.

to add to the pot, Kenny says he washed his hands before being talked to, a few others (Umps and team members) say Kenny washed his hands after being talked to.

heck, guess it's a LIARS CLUB JAMBOREE from this point on.

Cards took game 3 of the 2006 World Series so they're up Cards 2, Tigers 1 at this time in the best out of seven classic.

KARMA would be served in my humble opinion if there is a game 6, Kenny pitches and GETS FREAKING SHELLED like he's been in every other post-season he's pitched in.

maybe that would make up for his throwing the smallest camera man to the ground in Texas earlier this year because he was in a sour mood and wanted to take it out on the smallest guy in the area.

maybe.

Kenny Rogers SUCKS his thumb

the saint louise cards went to tiger land
they took the first game from a bunch of kitties

kenny "the thumb" rodgers had a smudge
on the palm end of his opposed digit

just like the smudge that was there
in the other post season game with the yanks

he made a lame excuse about rosin
and dirt and this and that

nobody cared, cheating is understood
in a game where we steal bases

"if you aren't cheating
you aren't trying", somebody said

but what about those other seven innings
without that smudge of pine tar?

heck, shaving cream and other things
are invisible to the searching camera

and when it comes to red lights, taxes and baseball
cheating might just be americas modern pastime

found an old sonnet from awhile ago

Ocean Edge Flight Sonnet

bare feet in sand and eyes cast to the blue
through waves that tickle moving under me
see gulls that ride above on salty breeze
tease times when I was flying within you
do syncing wings make one where there were two
few flights I've felt on winds this side of dreams
scream'd calls of sky to feel the deep blue free
thee and tandem flight to new heights flew true

new waves slow pound this shoreline into now
how wisping air taunts softly long gone wings
brings everything that e're was you and tao
brow furrowing as deep as flesh allows
bows splashing waves of mem'ry as we sing
rings of bell like strings climb cloudward somehow

another nuke dream

had another nuke dream last night. haven't had one for a year or so. it wasn't like the ones I had as a child and wasn't like the last few I've had in adulthood. it was a weird fragmented dream of multiple nukes, people in confusion in vehicles and swarms on foot.

since it didn't wake me, I think I lost most of it in the waking transition. my dreams are usually best remembered in total when they wake me.

anyway, what I remember was the ground shaking and lights coming from a few directions. there were BIG BOOMS and shakes and small booms and shakes and lots of different flashing lights and pulsing illuminations that were lighting up the entire night sky.

it must have been the stuff I've been reading about North Korea and Iran lately, eh?

guess it's better than when I was a child (about age 6 through 11) and I was having nuke dreams about once a month or so. they shook me up a bit more at that time as well.

here's my favorite nuke nuke joke.

- nuke nuke
- who's there?
- (sound of wind)
